Who needs STCW training?

STCW Training is mandatory for seafarers all over the globe. The starting point for most people is the 5 day STCW Basic Safety Course. This training is required by workboat crew, super yacht crew, cruise ship entertainers and so on.

Beyond basic safety there are a variety of more advanced STCW courses, in particular Medical First Aid and GMDSS radio.

Where can you book an STCW course?

Training takes place in Southampton, and bookings are taken at the bottom of each page.

How long is my Elementary First Aid certificate valid for?

If you hold an RYA Commercial Endoresement, require this certificate for world sailing or hold First Aid responsibilities, this lasts for 5 years. To revalidate, take the one day course.

What’s the difference between the GMDSS ROC and GOC?

Yes, the ROC is for those operating within about 35 miles of a coast guard station. Seafarers venturing further afield will require the GOC which then covers use of SSB equipment.
